My wife and I have been travelling in East Africa since the beginning of April having just finished work in a hospital in Ethiopia for the previous 18 months. I bought the Aquapure Traveller at an Adventure Travel Show before leaving for Ethiopia because of its low price, small size and advertised purification properties.
We knew that tap water in most of the region was unreliable and while working in the hospital we were well aware of the danger of water borne diseases. In Ethiopia we filtered our household water through ceramic filters and boiled it because of the large volume needed however while travelling this was not practical and this was where the Aquapure Traveller came into its own.
For the first two months of our travels we used it as our main source of water, mainly filtering tap water using between two to four litres per day. While camping we have used water form numerous natural water sources including the White Nile, mountain streams and lake water and as far as we are aware have contracted no water borne illnesses during this time. Using natural sources has obviously reduced the life of the filter quite a bit but we were still able to use it at the high altitudes on Mt Kenya and Mt Kilimanjaro where we were concerned that the boiling temperature of the water was not sufficient to purify it adequately.
We are very satisfied with our Aquapure Traveller and its reliability. It has been ideal for us as we have been backpacking through East Africa, easy to carry and easy to use. We plan to buy our replacement filter as soon as possible.
